Somatus is seeking an experienced Tax Director to lead company’s tax function in support of a rapidly growing healthcare organization. This role will oversee income tax, state and local tax, indirect tax, tax provision support, and tax compliance matters, while helping build the processes, controls, and documentation required for a high-growth environment and future public-company readiness.
This role will serve as both a strategic leader and a hands-on operator, partnering closely with Accounting, Finance, Legal, HR, and external advisors to assess tax implications of business initiatives, support corporate transactions and legal entity matters, and maintain a strong control environment. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical tax expertise, sound judgment, strong project management skills, and the ability to translate complex tax issues into practical recommendations for senior leadership.
A successful candidate will be comfortable operating across both strategy and execution — from advising on tax risk, planning, and governance matters to managing filings, audits, provision support, and documentation. This is a key leadership role for a company focused on operational excellence, scalable infrastructure, and disciplined growth.
- Lead Somatus’ overall tax function, including direct tax, state and local tax, indirect tax, tax planning, and tax compliance.
- Own the coordination of federal, state, and local income tax filings and related compliance processes in partnership with external advisors.
- Support quarterly and annual tax provision processes, including documentation, analysis, and coordination with the accounting team and external advisors under ASC 740.
- Monitor and assess state and local tax exposure, nexus considerations, sales and use tax matters, and other indirect tax requirements relevant to Somatus’ operations.
- Partner with Accounting, Legal, HR, and Finance to evaluate the tax implications of contracts, new business initiatives, legal entity structures, and operational changes.
- Provide tax support for corporate transactions, restructuring initiatives, intercompany matters, and other strategic projects as the company continues to scale.
- Manage tax audits, notices, and inquiries from taxing authorities, ensuring timely responses, strong documentation, and appropriate issue resolution.
- Develop and maintain tax policies, processes, controls, and supporting documentation to improve scalability, transparency, and readiness for future public-company requirements.
- Partner with external auditors on tax-related matters and support audit requests, technical analyses, and control documentation.
- Coordinate and manage external tax advisors to ensure high-quality deliverables, practical recommendations, and alignment with Somatus’ business priorities.
- Monitor changes in tax law and healthcare-related regulatory developments and evaluate their impact on the company’s structure, contracts, and operations.
- Support executive leadership with tax insights, risk assessments, and decision support related to growth initiatives, compliance matters, and governance.
- Operate effectively at both the strategic and tactical levels, including hands-on management of analyses, reconciliations, workpapers, and filing support when needed.
