About the Role

As VP of Research and Development and Innovation, you will lead the full lifecycle of product innovation—from early-stage research and ideation through product development, technology transfer, and commercialization. You will champion a translational R&D approach, ensuring that scientific discoveries and novel concepts are efficiently developed into high-quality, scalable products and seamlessly handed off to Operations. You will also be responsible for identifying, assessing, and integrating innovative technologies within both 503A and 503B compounding environments to expand our product portfolio, optimize production, and ensure compliance.

Responsibilities

  • You will Drive and deliver the Innovation pipeline and the development of innovative strategies to advance Him's scientific capabilities, competitive advantage, and product pipeline

  • You will Lead the end-to-end innovation process, transforming research concepts into viable, commercialized products, with clear transition pathways to manufacturing and operations.

  • You will develop and execute a comprehensive Innovation and R&D strategy, aligning scientific capabilities with strategic business goals across regulated environments, including 503A patient-specific and 503B outsourcing facilities.

  • You will build and manage a high-performing R&D function, including research scientists, formulation experts, and product development professionals.

  • Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the R&D team

  • Establish and oversee R&D infrastructure, including lab and transfer scale production, and analytical capabilities, with a focus on QbD, Speed and quality, regulatory compliance (cGMP, USP 795/797/800).

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and platforms relevant to pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and supplement innovation, with a focus on applicability in 503A and 503B settings.

  • Develop technical assessments and feasibility studies for new formulations, delivery systems, and process innovations to accelerate time-to-market and improve therapeutic outcomes.

  • Partner with Regulatory, Quality, Medical and Operations to ensure a seamless handoff of new products and technologies from development to manufacturing and market launch.

  • Drive continuous improvement in R&D processes, promoting a culture of scientific excellence, agility, and accountability.

  • Communicate regularly with senior leadership to provide updates on Innovation projects, progress, and challenges

  • You will remain current on industry developments and advancements in product portfolios and technology and monitor and analyze industry trends, competition, and consumer feedback to continuously improve and evolve product offerings

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Formulation Science, Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or related field.

  • 12+ years of progressive experience in Innovation, R&D, or Product Development, including leadership roles in pharmaceutical, compounding, or supplement manufacturing sectors.

  • Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical product Innovation processes. Experience across Sterile, non-sterile and multiple dosage forms in both development and large scale operations

  • Demonstrated track record of building, leading, and managing R&D and innovation teams. Experience in building and establishing R&D infrastructure, including laboratory setup, equipment procurement, and compliance.

  • Strong business acumen and the ability to align Innovation strategies with overall business objectives.

  • Deep understanding of regulatory and operational environments, and experience developing products within these frameworks.

  • Demonstrated success in advancing concepts from research through development and into full commercialization.

  • Strong technical knowledge in pharmaceutical formulation, delivery systems, and analytical methods.

  • Strategic mindset with strong business acumen and the ability to translate innovation strategy into tangible results.

  • Ability to operate in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and effectively prioritize complex initiatives.

  • Demonstrated track record of building, leading, and managing Innovation teams

  • Experience working cross-functionally to identify and execute product improvement and consistency through reformulations and maintenance initiatives

  • Organized, methodical, strong steering, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and environments

Preferred:

  • 503A and 503B Experience

  • REgulatory CMC preparation experience

  • Professional memberships - e.g. American Association Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS), Controlled release society (CRS) membership/experience.

  • Experience working with Regulatory authorities.

  • Medical or Pharmacist experience, background
