About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of State Government Affairs to lead engagement and advocacy efforts with Boards of Pharmacy across all 50 states. This remote position will play a critical role in shaping and influencing state-level policies and regulations that impact the pharmacy profession, with a particular focus on pharmacy compounding and related issues. The Director will work closely with internal stakeholders, trade associations, and regulatory bodies to develop and execute strategies that advance the organization’s interests and ensure compliance with evolving laws.

You Will:

  • Lead lobbying and advocacy efforts with state Boards of Pharmacy and related legislative and state government bodies across all 50 states.

  • Monitor, analyze, and influence state regulations, rules, and policies affecting pharmacy practice, with a particular focus on compounding pharmacy.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Board of Pharmacy members, staff, regulators, legislators, and other key stakeholders.

  • Represent the organization in state regulatory proceedings, rulemakings, advisory committees, and public hearings.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Legal, Regulatory, Compliance, and Business teams to align advocacy goals with operational needs.

  • Develop and implement coordinated state advocacy strategies in partnership with regional state leads and the Vice President of State Government Affairs.

  • Manage external consultants, contract lobbyists, and industry coalitions as needed to advance policy objectives.

  • Provide strategic guidance on emerging issues and collaboratively develop risk mitigation strategies related to state pharmacy regulation.

  • Draft comment letters, position papers, talking points, and other advocacy materials.

  • Track state legislative and regulatory activity and provide regular updates and recommendations to leadership.

You Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; JD or advanced degree in public policy, law, pharmacy, or health care strongly preferred.

  • 10+ years of experience in state government affairs, public policy, or regulatory advocacy, with a focus on Boards of Pharmacy.

  • Proven experience working with multiple state Boards of Pharmacy and a deep understanding of state pharmacy laws and regulations, especially around compounding.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with regulators, legislators, and industry stakeholders.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience drafting regulatory comments, testimony, and policy briefs.

  • Strategic agile thinker with the ability to navigate complex regulatory environments and develop clear advocacy objectives.

  • Self-starter comfortable working in a fast-paced, remote environment with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to travel.
