The Role:

Hazel Health is looking for an experienced and strategic Credentialing Manager to lead our credentialing function within Medical Affairs. This pivotal role involves oversight of all aspects of the credentialing, re-credentialing, and provider enrollment processes. You'll be responsible for developing and implementing departmental policies, ensuring strict compliance with all regulatory and accrediting bodies, and managing a team of Credentialing Specialists. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with deep expertise in healthcare credentialing standards and a passion for process improvement.

What You’ll Do:

  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Credentialing Specialists. Oversee daily operations, conduct performance evaluations, and foster a collaborative, high-performance environment.
  • Policy & Procedure Oversight: Develop, implement, and maintain all credentialing policies and procedures to ensure they align with current industry standards (e.g., The Joint Commission, NCQA, state and federal regulations).
  • Compliance & Audits: Serve as the primary point of contact for all internal and external audits related to credentialing. Ensure that all files and processes are audit-ready and meet all legal and accrediting requirements.
  • Process Optimization: Continuously evaluate and improve credentialing workflows to increase efficiency, accuracy, and turnaround times. Manage the credentialing database or software to ensure data integrity.
  • Strategic Management: Act as the subject matter expert on all credentialing matters. Resolve complex credentialing issues and provide guidance to senior leadership on compliance risks and provider network management.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal departments (People/HR, Legal & Compliance, Clinical Operations) and external stakeholders (insurance payers, licensing boards) to facilitate smooth and timely processing.
  • Reporting & Analytics: Prepare and present regular reports on departmental metrics, including: processing times, compliance rates, and team productivity, to cross-functional leadership.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in credentialing, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Expert knowledge of primary care and behavioral health credentialing standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., CMS, state licensing boards, NCQA).
  • Proven leadership skills with experience hiring, training, and developing a team.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and an analytical mindset with high attention to detail.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and experience with HRIS or credentialing software
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with professionals at all levels.

Preferred Skills:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • For Healthcare: Professional certification such as Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) or Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM) is highly preferred.
  • Extensive experience with credentialing software (e.g., Modio, Athena, Salesforce) and database management.
  • Experience leading a department through a major audit or accreditation survey.
