In this role, you will be the right-hand to our CEO and the key partner to our seasoned executive team on a wide range of topics. You will have the ability to directly impact and improve decisions and processes, and your work will increase the speed and efficiency of execution throughout the company.

This is a unique role in its unparalleled exposure to the inner workings of a unique organization experiencing hockey-stick growth. Hazel straddles key dynamics in the healthcare, education, and technology sectors, and our leaders are focused on maximizing growth, impact, and financial sustainability; your role will be to help the executive team navigate the complexity of these diverse priorities.

The Chief of Staff will report directly to the CEO but will also partner closely with our Business Operations team and each of our executive leaders. This role can be a tremendous stepping stone to functional leadership, general management, or business strategy and operations.

What You’ll Do:

  • Executive Team Support: Serve as an executive advisor to the CEO and other executive team members.
    • Proactively identify needs across the organization and drive to alignment on roles and responsibilities for these tricky, cross-functional challenges
    • Provide structure for executive summits and regular meetings (incl. pre-work and project management on next steps)
    • Support on the operationalization of – and strategic thinking behind – our annual OKR processes
    • Ensure consistent focus on KPIs and business goals
  • Strategic Initiatives: Kickoff short-term strategic initiatives and pilots to quickly test executive team hypotheses
    • Own Hazel’s unique perspective on our landscape of competitors and customers
    • Drive to “80/20” answers on ad hoc issues (incl. M&A, new verticals, and other strategic growth opportunities)
  • Partnerships: Act as the face of Hazel, strategically leveraging our work with a diverse group of advisors and partners
    • Represent Hazel when meeting with prospective investors or potential partners throughout the lifecycle of an opportunity
    • Synthesize the key challenges and opportunities Hazel is facing for our quarterly board materials
    • Foster the development of advisory boards, setting clear charters and driving regular cadence to best leverage their support
  • Office of the CEO: Act as an extension of Hazel’s CEO on day-to-day operations
    • Build strategic plans for and execute on external and internal communications
    • Partner with our CEO on the nitty-gritty opportunities for greater efficiency (e.g., calendar and meeting reviews)
    • Project manage one-off efforts around organizational effectiveness

What excites us:

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • 6-8 years experience with a combination of top-tier strategy consulting (at least 3 years) and startup operations
  • Experience across the healthcare landscape (esp. payers, providers, digital solutions)
  • A strong executive presence, with the maturity and gravitas to build relationships across the entire organization and represent Hazel’s best interests in a matrixed organization
  • A highly strategic mindset, with an ability to balance many competing near- and longer-term priorities from an enterprise-wide view
  • A make-it-happen, entrepreneurial attitude, and someone who thrives with minimal guidance in a fast-paced startup environment
  • A passion for Hazel’s mission and values
