Crescendo Health ( is a new, venture-backed startup with a seasoned founding team. We work with clinical trials to accelerate medical innovation and fight disease.

The time has come to build a new generation of clinical trials that make use of real world health data. This will enable faster and more informed development of new treatments for those in need, and help ensure that clinical trial evidence reflects the diversity of our population.

Our experienced team includes deep healthcare and startup experience from Datavant, Grand Rounds, Opower, Color, Square, Stripe, Castlight, and the Stanford Center for Population Health; and advisors such as the former top official at the Department of Health and Human Services responsible for health data standards. We recently raised substantial seed funding from top-tier investors.

The Role

We’re looking for someone with deep, wide ranging product design experience who is eager to have a big impact on clinical trials. We’re looking for someone who is excited to roll up their sleeves and contribute across a variety of design-related disciplines, including UI, UX, research, with occasional brand & marketing work. We’re looking for people who are motivated to help build a great organization and culture. This is a design leadership role, the first at the company, and has the potential to grow into either a more managerial role or to remain a highly skilled IC. Experience working with health data or in the health industry is terrific but by no means expected.

We are a remote first team with an office in Oakland, CA for those who value in-person time and would like to work from an office. We work asynchronously where possible, have regular team check-ins, and don’t hesitate to get on a call to collaborate or discuss details when it’s helpful. We value culture deeply, and you can expect regular game nights and other group activities, and we get together in person once per quarter for team collaboration.

Who we're looking for someone who:

  • Is motivated by the opportunity to improve patient outcomes and increase the pace of medical innovation
  • Enjoys working on a wide range of projects. Our products involve many user groups including patients enrolling in a clinical trial; medical center site staff; clinicians involved in a trial; and our internal operations teams. The ability to empathize with different types of users is essential.
  • Has at least five years of design experience (primarily Product/User Experience Design) working at an early stage startup or on greenfield projects within a larger organization
  • Has some amount of experience running small-scale design research initiatives (participant recruiting, micro-ethnography, user feedback sessions, generative/participatory design sessions, etc.)
  • Has a strong sense of visual design (although visual design expertise is not a requirement), and experience defining/implementing a design system and working within a set of predefined design guidelines.
  • Is comfortable moving between high level strategic vision and executing on the details of a project
  • Is kind and curious

  • Leading design strategy and research to envision long-term direction for our products
  • Designing UI and UX for a range of emergent products while collaborating closely with your partners in product and engineering. Examples include: redesigning and adding new features to our personal health application to help individuals understand their own health information; designing an application to help clinicians who consult on eligibility for clinical studies; and enabling a smooth onboarding for participants to use Crescendo as part of a clinical trial
  • Owning the company brand, developing our style guide and design tools, and ensuring we have a cohesive brand (we’ve worked with Figma and Canva, but would love for you to help us use the best tools)
  • Ensuring we understand the people who use our products and helping us build products that participants who are not digital natives can use effectively
  • Helping create company collateral and ensuring we have compelling and cohesive design across product and marketing efforts

If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!
