About Us

At Citizen Health, we have a singular mission: to improve the lives of the 400 million people suffering from rare and complex conditions. Leveraging our AI-powered data platform, we empower patients with seamless access and control over their health data that they can share across our multi-sided ecosystem with caregivers, providers and researchers to illuminate better treatment and support options, while bringing therapies to patients faster. We support thousands of patients, work with a rapidly growing network of patient advocacy organizations, and innovate with leading biopharma organizations to accelerate therapies, always ensuring patients remain at the center.

We are a team of patients, caregivers, researchers, and builders who have had first-hand experience across the spectrum of rare disease. Led by a seasoned founding team with a history of successful exits in healthcare and consumer startups, and supported by top-tier investors, we are a close-knit, mission-driven group seeking exceptional talents to join us.

About You

You are a hands-on Senior DevOps Engineer who thrives in fast-paced startup environments. You have deep expertise building and operating cloud-native infrastructure, with a special focus on Kubernetes, GitOps workflows (FluxCD), and automation at scale. You are passionate about delivering secure, reliable, and scalable platforms that empower engineering teams to move faster and more confidently.

You have a strong bias for action, thrive on ownership, and believe in automation-first solutions. You collaborate well across teams, always looking for ways to make systems more resilient and deployments more predictable.

The Role

Citizen Health is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and management of cloud infrastructure and deployment pipelines for our AI-powered, patient-centric healthcare platform.

This is a high-impact, hands-on role focused on building scalable, secure, and resilient systems to support the seamless integration, analysis, and delivery of health data and AI-driven insights. As a senior technical leader, you'll drive the adoption of modern DevOps and GitOps practices, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and enable engineering velocity through best-in-class automation and infrastructure design.

If you thrive on building infrastructure from the ground up, streamlining developer workflows, and deploying automation at scale, we’d love to talk to you.

Responsibilities

Infrastructure & Automation

  • Design and manage scalable, multi-cloud infrastructure with AWS (primary), plus GCP and Azure.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning using Terraform and other IaC tools.
  • Manage and secure Kubernetes (EKS) environments; implement GitOps workflows with FluxCD.
  • Build and maintain robust CI/CD pipelines to support rapid, reliable application delivery.
  • Implement configuration and secrets management best practices.
  • Create deployment strategies (e.g., blue/green, canary) to minimize risk.

Developer Enablement & Tooling

  • Build self-service infrastructure and deployment tools to increase engineering team productivity.
  • Optimize developer environments and pipelines for performance, security, and ease of use.
  • Play an active role in infrastructure cost optimization, performance tuning, and security hardening initiatives.

Operational Excellence

  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions (NewRelic preferred, Prometheus, Grafana).
  • Lead incident response and postmortem processes; continuously improve system reliability.
  • Partner with SREs to ensure production systems are observable, scalable, and performant.
  • Partner with Security Lead to ensure infrastructure complies with healthcare security standards (e.g., HIPAA, HITRUST); Implement infrastructure security best practices, including IAM, network security, and data protection

Collaboration & Enablement

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to define deployment patterns and operational standards.
  • Evangelize DevOps and GitOps best practices across the organization.
  • Build and maintain comprehensive documentation for infrastructure and deployment processes
  • Stay current with emerging tools and practices in the DevOps and cloud infrastructure space

Must-Have Skills

  • 5+ years of experience as a DevOps Engineer, Site Reliability Engineer, or similar role.
  • Strong expertise in AWS infrastructure, with production experience in GCP and/or Azure

  • Deep expertise with Kubernetes (EKS) cluster operations and GitOps with FluxCD (preferred)

  • Proficiency in Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) methodologies

  • Experience with building and managing modern CI/CD pipelines (e.g. GitHub Actions)

  • Strong programming or scripting skills (Python, Go, Bash, etc.)

  • Solid understanding of cloud networking, security best practices, and container orchestration

  • Passion for automating everything and enabling high-velocity development

  • Mission-driven mindset, strong ownership, and a collaborative, low-ego attitude.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with service meshes (e.g., Istio, Linkerd)

  • Familiarity with tools like ArgoCD, Helm

  • Background in infrastructure cost management and optimization

  • Experience supporting AI/ML infrastructure at scale

  • Familiarity with HIPAA/SOC 2 compliance environments
