| Principal, Healthcare Interoperability Position Overview b.well is seeking a Principal, Healthcare Interoperability to serve as the hands-on subject matter expert for healthcare interoperability initiatives. This is a highly cross-functional, individual contributor role for someone who thrives on being a "doer"—translating complex technical requirements into clear documentation, bridging business and engineering teams, and ensuring operational excellence across all data connections. You will be the go-to expert on healthcare interoperability standards, serving as the critical liaison between onboarding, engineering, product, and regulatory. This role requires someone who can dive deep into technical specifications, facilitate stakeholder sessions, create comprehensive documentation, troubleshoot data connection issues, and drive continuous process improvements—all while maintaining strategic alignment with industry regulations and b.well's growth objectives. This role is open to fully remote work. What You'll Do - Documentation & Requirements Management
- Create clear, comprehensive documentation for interoperability projects that serves diverse stakeholders—from technical teams to business leaders
- Translate business requirements into functional specifications that engineering teams can execute against
- Maintain up-to-date business process workflows and process documentation across all interoperability functions
- Document opportunities to enhance current processes and platforms for roadmap consideration
- Develop requirements for reports and dashboards that monitor data connection success and operational metrics
Cross-Functional Collaboration & SME Leadership - Serve as the healthcare interoperability domain SME, supporting cross-functional teams with deep technical and regulatory expertise
- Act as the primary liaison between onboarding, product and engineering, fielding technical questions and ensuring smooth handoffs
- Identify strategic opportunities, potential solutions, and business relationships to drive the vision & strategy forward
- Implement, manage and grow b.well’s FHIR-based data connections
- Facilitate working sessions with stakeholders to document business use cases, requirements, and workflows
- Participate in technical team standing meetings and coordinate with regulatory, onboarding, and other key stakeholders
- Work with technical program managers to ensure all items are properly documented and tracked
Data Connection Operations & Quality - Participate in projects for connecting new data types (devices, proprietary sources, B2B connections) as the interoperability SME
- Analyze technical specifications from vendors to ensure compliance with regulatory standards (FHIR, USCDI, SMART on FHIR, etc.)
- Participate in vendor meetings to drive new data connections and partnership opportunities
- Establish and oversee processes for validating new data connections to ensure data is being returned correctly
- Troubleshoot issues with new and existing data connections, providing detailed analysis and well-documented requirements for resolution
- Identify and document monitoring needs for live connections, creating clear requirements for engineering teams to implement fixes
Strategic Input & Continuous Improvement - Maintain awareness of the regulatory landscape (21st Century Cures Act, Patient Access APIs, TEFCA, etc.) and translate implications into operational requirements
- Identify opportunities for process optimization and innovation, documenting recommendations for strategic roadmap consideration
- Contribute to the interoperability strategic roadmap by providing operational insights and market intelligence
- Establish tracking and reporting mechanisms for data connection success metrics, ensuring visibility across the organization
What You Bring Required Qualifications - 5+ years of healthcare industry experience with deep, hands-on expertise in interoperability & interoperability standards including (FHIR, HL7, CCDA) and FHIR APIs, including: familiarity with current FHIR (R4), USCDI, SMART on FHIR, Inferno, Lantern, IHE/CCDA and query-based exchange for patient requests
- 3+ years relevant operational experience connecting with, and accessing and standardizing data from, restful API endpoints, analyzing API documentation and technical specifications
- Strong technical documentation and business analysis skills with proven ability to create comprehensive, clear, and concise technical and process documentation, and document complex workflows, requirements, and specifications
- Proven experience as a cross-functional liaison with ability to:
- Facilitate meetings and working sessions with diverse stakeholders
- Bridge communication between technical and non-technical teams
- Manage competing priorities across multiple departments
- Build strong working relationships with internal teams and external vendors
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities including:
- Systems thinking and root cause analysis
- Debugging data connection issues
- Identifying patterns and process improvement opportunities
- Data-driven decision making
- Self-starter mentality with:
- Strong ownership attitude and accountability
- Excellent decision-making skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Preferred Qualifications - Product management or technical program management experience working in agile environments with engineering teams
- Working knowledge of healthcare regulatory landscape including:
- Legal and operational drivers for health data interoperability
- Network access for various purposes/use cases (treatment, patient access, etc)
- Consumer access rights and privacy regulations
- CMS and ONC regulatory requirements
- Payer and provider data exchange requirements
- Passion for disruptive innovation and helping the industry transform faster, by making healthcare simpler for consumers
- Startup and growth-stage company experience
- Experience with healthcare data quality initiatives and understanding of semantic interoperability challenges

The target salary range for this position is $150,000 - $180,000 and is part of a competitive total rewards package including stock options, benefits, and incentive pay for eligible roles. Individual pay may vary from the target range and is determined by a number of factors including experience, location, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations.
