Who We're Looking For:

b.well is seeking an exceptional Senior Director of Data Refinery to lead the development and execution of our Data Intelligence Layer—a transformative platform that converts raw healthcare data into AI-optimized, actionable insights. This leader will take our strategic vision and make it operational reality, building the systems and teams that enable accurate analytics, care gap identification, advanced clinical predictions and AI ready data, while maintaining the highest standards of data privacy and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

You will be responsible for building and scaling b.well's real-time Data Refinery at large scale (over 150M+ lives) which encompasses:
  • Data Interpretation: Transforming raw healthcare data into meaningful, actionable insights through temporal data aggregation, contextual analysis, and predictive scoring
  • AI Readiness: Creating AI-optimized data formats that protect PHI while enabling efficient machine learning model training and advanced clinical insights
  • Data Intelligence: Eliminating data gaps that cause errors in analytics, care gaps, recommendations, and insights, ensuring point-in-time views that simplify reporting and analytics
Strategic Leadership:
  • Translate the Data Refinery vision into executable roadmaps with clear milestones and success metrics
  • Build and lead a high-performing team of data engineers, data analysts & data scientists
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Clinical, and Commercial teams to ensure Data Refinery capabilities drive business value
  • Establish the Data Refinery as a competitive differentiator in the healthcare data space
Technical Execution:
  • Oversee the development of AI-ready data formats including:
  • International Patient Summary (IPS) implementations
  • Encounter data to patient timelines and event graph networks
  • Privacy-protected AI training datasets
  • Build interpretation domains for:
  • Temporal data aggregation
  • Contextual analysis
  • Predictive scoring
Operational Excellence:
  • Dramatically increase data insights by providing AI-ready data formats
  • Identify and address data gaps that impact analytics accuracy
  • Build scalable data pipelines that support growing data volumes and use cases
  • Establish data quality frameworks and monitoring systems
Required Qualifications:
  • 12+ years in data engineering, data science, or healthcare technology roles
  • 5+ years in senior leadership positions managing cross-functional teams
  • Proven track record of taking strategic visions from concept to production at scale
  • Deep experience with healthcare data standards (FHIR, HL7, IPS) and interoperability
  • Demonstrated success building AI/ML data pipelines and infrastructure
Technical Expertise:
  • Expert knowledge of healthcare data formats, terminologies (SNOMED, LOINC, RxNorm), and clinical workflows
  • Strong understanding of ML/AI model training, embeddings, and graph networks
  • Experience with privacy-preserving technologies and de-identification techniques
  • Proficiency in modern data stack (cloud platforms, data warehouses, streaming architectures)
  • Understanding of predictive analytics, risk scoring, and temporal data analysis
Leadership & Business Acumen:
  • Exceptional ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
  • Track record of building and scaling high-performing technical teams
  • Experience working in fast-paced, growth-stage healthcare technology companies
  • Strong product sense and customer empathy
  • Excellent communication and executive presence
The target salary range for this position is $215,000 - $250,000 and is part of a competitive total rewards package including stock options, benefits, and incentive pay for eligible roles. Individual pay or title may vary from the target range and is determined by a number of factors including experience, location, internal pay equity, and other relevant business considerations. We review all employee pay and compensation programs annually at minimum to ensure competitive and fair pay.

Pay Range: $215,000 - $250,000 per year
