Transforming the lives of those affected by severe mental illness
At Amae Health, we are dedicated to helping the 15.4 million Americans living with severe mental illness (SMI) lead stable, meaningful lives, while ending the cycle of repeat hospitalizations. In partnership with some of the nation’s top academic medical centers we’ve pioneered an innovative outpatient care model that combines compassionate, in-person psychiatric care with comprehensive wraparound support. Our integrated care teams — including psychiatrists, therapists, primary care physicians, health coaches, and peer support specialists — work together to treat the whole person via a unique model, addressing physical, mental, and social needs in unison. By caring for every aspect of our patients’ well-being, we help them not just survive, but truly thrive.
Amae Health is a Series B venture-backed Public Benefit Corporation dedicated to becoming the nation's center of excellence for individuals living with severe mental illness (SMI). Backed by top-tier venture capital firms and strategic healthcare investors, we collaborate with prestigious health systems including NewYork-Presbyterian, Stanford Healthcare, and Cedars-Sinai, underscoring our commitment to fundamentally transforming mental health care delivery at scale.

The Opportunity:

Amae Health is expanding to Boston and we’re looking for a Clinic Director to build, launch, and grow our first clinic in the region! As the Clinic Director, you will lead and support our clinical team while working in a dyad partnership with a Practice Operations Manager. In this shared leadership model, you will oversee clinical quality, staff development, and care delivery, while your dyad partner leads clinic operations and administration. Together, you will shape the culture, performance, and success of the site.

You will steward a collaborative, interdisciplinary care team that includes psychiatrists, therapists, primary care physicians, health coaches, and peer support specialists. Your leadership will foster clinical excellence, team cohesion, and continuous improvement in how we deliver care. You will play a central role in shaping the patient experience and influencing meaningful health outcomes. Your clinical insight, empathy, and strategic guidance will reflect our commitment to treating each person as a whole human being.

What you'll work on:

As the Clinic Director, you will lead clinical care at the clinic in a dyad partnership with the Practice Operations Manager. You will:

  • Lead the Clinical Team: Mentor and support an interdisciplinary care team, fostering collaboration, alignment, and high-quality care delivery.
  • Provide Direct Patient Care: Participate in assessments, develop individualized treatment plans, and offer therapy (individual, group, or family) as needed to support patient goals.
  • Oversee Intake & Care Coordination: Guide the intake process and daily care review meetings to ensure smooth transitions and appropriate care pathways.
  • Manage Complex Clinical Cases: Support the team in caring for higher-acuity or complex patients, providing clinical escalation and intervention when needed.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Work with clinical and operational leaders to refine workflows, enhance patient experience, and evolve our care model.
  • Engage in Professional Development: Maintain and grow your clinical expertise through required and ongoing training.

What you’ll have:

  • An active, unrestricted independent clinical license in Massachusetts (e.g., LMHC, LICSW, LMFT, Psychologist with HSPC, or Psychiatrist/NP-Psych) with a minimum of three years of post-licensure clinical experience, meeting the state’s requirements to serve as an Approved Supervisor under Massachusetts regulations
  • Experience working with individuals with severe mental illness and co-occurring conditions, including developing and implementing treatment plans
  • A whole-person, holistic approach to care and comfort working with diverse patients and interdisciplinary teams
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills in both individual and group settings
  • Experience leading, coaching, or supporting clinical staff and collaborating on shared decisions
  • Solid organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic clinical environment
  • Familiarity with local mental health, medical, and social service systems, including patient rights and community resources
  • Basic comfort with computer systems and clinical documentation tools

More About Amae:
'Amae', pronounced ‘Ah-mai’, is a Japanese concept meaning the need to be in good favor with, and the ability to depend on, the people around oneself. It reflects our core belief that a strong support system is essential to build people up, strengthen their will to carry on and even to thrive in life. This mentality applies across our whole company – from the patients we serve to the team we’re building.
We’re a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC) that provides outpatient psychiatric and primary care health services through value-based care arrangements. Our model’s success is predicated upon achieving outcomes for our patients, not on the volume of services provided.
Amae Health is an equal opportunity employer and encourages all applicants from every background and life experience to apply.
