Location: John Fitzgibbon Memorial Hospital
Position: Licensed Practical Nurse, Clinic
The LPN performs selected duties for the promotion of health in the care of patients. The LPN delivers care according to protocols and procedures in Department Specific and Generic Structure Standards Manual.
Principle Accountabilities and Essential Duties of the Job:
- Schedule appointments.
- Obtain required referrals and preauthorization’s.
- Document medications administered.
- Document patient calls in chart.
- Assist patients to exam rooms.
- Document chief complaint and at least 3 vitals.
- Perform venipunctures.
- Give injections.
- Call in prescriptions.
- X-rays (limited).
- Bone density scans.
- Assist physician in all special procedures, including minor surgery, as required.
- Remove sutures, clean wounds, and apply dressing as directed by physician.
- Clean and stock exam room with the necessary supplies.
- Attend all required in-services and maintain CPR certification.
- Respect confidentiality of patient records and use discretion when discussing patient information.
- Follow Universal Precautions and utilize sterile technique when appropriate.
- Demonstrate knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
Safety:
- Identifies and resolves safety issues; actively identifies and takes appropriate precautions following safety standards in the workplace for self and customers.
- Can identify the appropriate situation requiring personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Adheres to the employee safety plan and supports the effort to provide a safe environment for patients and staff.
- Follows the infection control plan specifically in the areas of: disposal of infectious waste; reporting of infections; needle sticks; blood/mucous membrane exposure; disinfection techniques.
- Demonstrates understanding of Life Safety, Equipment Management, Disaster
- Preparedness, Security, Hazardous Materials and Utilities.

Education & Experience:
- Minimum of High School plus specialized training and certification (minimum of 6 months to 2 years)
- Certification/Licensure Required for Job: Licensed Practical Nurse
- 3 months – 1 year of technical field experience
- 0 – 2 years of supervision
