Tri-Area Community Health ( is a Federally Qualified Health Center headquartered in Laurel Fork, Virginia, with full-service locations currently open in Ferrum, Floyd, Grayson Highlands (Troutdale), and Laurel Fork, Virginia. For almost 40 years, Tri-Area has provided care to underserved individuals in Southwest Virginia. We offer integrated primary medical and behavioral health care in all these clinic locations. We also have pharmacies that are open in Ferrum and Laurel Fork. Our three large sites are National Committee for Quality Assurance-certified Patient-Centered Medical Homes and medical professionals at all sites are eligible for National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment (HPSA score of 19).
We are excited to be opening a new clinic and pharmacy in Fries, Virginia (located in Grayson County, near the city of Galax).
As a healthcare facility, we fall under the COVID-19 vaccination mandate from CMS.
Position: We are seeking a Board-certified Physician in a primary care or associated specialty to serve as Tri-Area’s Medical Director. The Medical Director is expected to work 4-5 days a week seeing patients, completing administrative duties on site, and visiting clinics.
Requirements: Graduation from a medical school approved by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Medical Association or the Committee on Hospitals of the Bureau of Professional Education of the American Osteopathic Association.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
Must have by date of hire and maintain current throughout employment:
Licensed to practice medicine by the Commonwealth of Virginia
Board certification in Family Medicine
DEA license
Medicare PIN and UPIN numbers
Medicaid number
Have or be able to obtain BLS/CPR and ACLS certification within 30 days of hire Bilingual ability (English & Spanish) a plus.
EHR Used: eClinicalWorks

Required testing and immunizations:

  • COVID full vaccination or medical/religious exemption

  • Varicella Influenza vaccines will be required according to dates set by the CDC, Virginia Department of Health, and the Tri-Area Medical Director
